Salary Survey and Rate Study Instructions
Thank you for taking the 2010 TRWA Salary Survey and Rate Study! The individual who completes this survey for your system will need to have access to confidential employee salary and benefit information as well as the system’s budget and contracting information. In most cases, the system’s manager or treasurer would be the appropriate person to complete this survey.
Section A – Identification
The information provided in this section will be used to determine eligibility for one complimentary copy of the Salary Survey Report and the Rate Study Analysis. The name and membership status of participating systems will not be published in any form and will be destroyed after the survey report is completed.
Section B – Utility Information
The information in this section will help to qualify different levels of compensation in the Salary Survey Report. Because the needs and resources of water and wastewater utilities vary widely across the state, this information will help utility decision makers compare the compensation packages they offer to their employees with similar systems. All respondents should be able to complete this section.
Section C - Rates, Fees, and Charges
The responses provided in this section will be used to create TRWA’s first comprehensive, state wide rate study. A report based on this information will be provided to survey participants, free of charge, along with the salary survey report.
Section D – Employee Benefits
In this section, please let us know what sort of benefits you provide for your employees. Responses to these questions should not reflect whether your system offered these benefits to particular employees, only if specific benefits are offered by the utility to any employee. The one exception is the question regarding vehicle allowances. For this question, please indicate which positions, if any, receive allowances and the amount of the allowance.
Section E – Company Equipment
Equipment in this section refers to company/utility property that employees use away from the office or plant. Equipment may include, but is not limited to, company vehicles, laptop computers, printers, GPS equipment, mobile telephones, etc. This section includes company/utility equipment in general and asks questions about the specific positions authorized to use this equipment.
Section F – Salary Information
Each job title in this section includes a brief description of the primary duties and necessary licenses for the position. We realize that the job titles and definitions we use may not exactly reflect the titles and definitions used for your system. Please use the definitions as a guide and choose the title that best fits the job performed by the employee in question. If an employee has several job titles or functions, please list him/her only once using the job description that best defines the majority of their duties. Since we would like information on as many employees as possible, please use the last page of this section to add additional employees and refer to one of the job titles included in the survey. If you have a position we have not included, please include a brief description and salary information on the last page of this section.
Section G – Comments and Feedback
Please use this section to give us feedback on your experience with this survey so that we can continue to improve it in the coming years.
